Such excellent spices and precious oil, pure oil olive, as the common people had not, and which they brought out of Egypt; the one was for the light: for the light of the candlestick only; the oil, and other spices: were for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense; the spices for the former were pure myrrh, sweet cinnamon, sweet calamus and cassia; and for the latter, stacte, onycha, galbanum, with pure frankincense.

The leaders brought onyx stones and gemstones
on Exodus 35:27-29
The leaders come last, bringing stones to mount on the ephod and breastpiece. At 28:12 the onyx stones carry the tribes' names before the LORD, so the tribal heads supply the stones bearing their names. The paragraph calls it all a freewill offering to the LORD.

John Gill notes that these were costly spices and pure olive oil, such as the common people lacked. The leaders of verse 27 brought them with the onyx stones. The spices went into the anointing oil and the fragrant incense of 30:23 to 34.
