The sons of Abraham
on 1 Chronicles 1:28-34
Ishmael's twelve sons and Keturah's sons are listed first and finished. Then the line the book follows is taken up last: Abraham was the father of Isaac. Genesis set the same order with its toledoth, listing Esau's line before Jacob's.

These were the sons of Ishmael
The twelve names of verses 30 and 31 answer God's promise in Genesis 17:20 that Ishmael would father twelve princes. Jetur and Naphish return in 1 Chronicles 5:19 as enemies of the tribes east of the Jordan. Ishmael's line is complete in two verses.
