Woe to the shepherds that scatter the flock: Jehovah will gather the remnant himself and set true shepherds over them. Then the Messianic promise the book turns on: 'Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called: Jehovah our righteousness' (23:5-6): a reign still future and literal. The rest indicts the prophets who steal words: 'Is not my word like fire? saith Jehovah; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?'
