From the leader down, the blood stays on the altar of burnt offering in the courtyard. By Leviticus 6:26 and 6:30, a sin offering whose blood was carried into the tent is burned. One whose blood was not is eaten by the priest.

The priest applies the blood with his finger, as the high priest did inside the tent at verse 6. Here he puts it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering in the court. Albert Barnes cites this verse as the pattern for the lesser sin offerings.

This intimated the greatness of the guilt connected with the sin of a high priest. The eminency of his station, and his relation both to God and to the people, greatly aggravated his offences; see Rom. ii.
