Then the LORD said to Moses
on Leviticus 22:26-30
The third speech turns from an animal's fitness to its life: a newborn stays "with its mother for seven days" and is acceptable from the eighth, as Exodus 22:30 also says. An ox or sheep may not be slaughtered on the same day as its young, and Leviticus gives no reason. Writers who seek one turn to Exodus 23:19 and Deuteronomy 22:6, where the same care stands unexplained.

The thank offering is the peace offering of thanksgiving named at 7:12 and 7:15. Albert Barnes ties so that it may be acceptable here to the same phrase at verse 19. Acceptance rests on the rule of the next verse.
