After ten days the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah
on Jeremiah 42:7-12
The answer comes in the verbs of 1:10. “I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you.” The LORD says, “I will relent of the disaster I have brought upon you,” and tells them not to fear the king of Babylon.

The LORD's compassion will work through the compassion of the king of Babylon. Jamieson, Fausset and Brown, following Calvin, say God will stir mercy in the king, and Albert Barnes that God will win them pity before him. They would be restored to the land they meant to leave.
