5 notes on this verseThis is the offering - There were three kinds of metals: 1. Gold, זהב zahab, which may properly signify wrought gold; what was bright and resplendent, as the word implies. In Job 28:15, Job 28:16, Job 28:17, Job 28:19, gold is mentioned five times, and four of the words are different in the original. 1. סגור Segor, from סגר sagar, to shut up; gold in the mine, or shut up in its ore.

on Exodus 25:3-7
The metals are named in an order the whole structure keeps to, gold then silver then brass, and chapter 26 grades them the same way by how far a thing sits from the ark. The gold and the silver came out of Egypt at 12:35 and 12:36, handed over by the people who had held Israel as slaves. Incense occurs here for the first time in Scripture, listed as a raw supply four chapters before the altar it burns on is given at 30:1.
