Chapter summary

Tabernacle — the pattern given. ‘Let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle …’. Freewill offering first — gold, silver, brass; blue, purple, scarlet; fine linen, goats' hair, rams' skins dyed red, shittim wood, oil, spices, onyx stones. Then the ark: shittim wood overlaid with pure gold, two cherubim of beaten work stretching wings over the mercy seat, the testimony within. ‘There I will meet with thee.’ The table of shewbread and the golden lampstand of seven lamps follow. Hebrews 8:5 reads these instructions as the shadow of heavenly things.

Drafted from Matthew Henry, Calvin, Gill, Clarke, JFB, and Barnes.
