It is, however, only the confines of the district that are here meant. Shimei, . . . a man of the family of Saul--The misfortune of his family, and the occupation by David of what they considered their rightful possessions, afforded a natural, if not a justifiable cause for this ebullition of rude insults and violence.

on 2 Samuel 16:5-8
Shimei son of Gera, “from the family of the house of Saul”, meets the king at Bahurim. He throws stones, though the mighty men stand on David's right and left. He calls him a “man of bloodshed” twice and blames him for “all the blood of the house of Saul”.

Jamieson, Fausset & Brown trace the outburst to his family's ruin and to David holding what Saul's house thought its own lands. Bahurim is the place where Paltiel turned back weeping after Michal at 3:16. Saul's house had old griefs there.
