5 notes on this verseThe priests, the men of the plain - Some of the officers of the temple, particularly the singers, dwelt in the plain country round about Jerusalem, Neh 12:28; and it is likely that several of the priests dwelt in the same place.

The roll passes David's tombs and a guard-house in one clause. Through this stretch men repair opposite their own houses, the Levites, priests and temple servants each by their dwelling. The Tekoites appear a second time at verse 27, the commoners doubling the portion their nobles refused.

Clarke places these priests in the plain around Jerusalem, where some of the singers also lived (12:28). Priests from the city made repairs in front of their own houses at verse 28. These came in from the surrounding area to take a share.

And after him repaired the priests, the men of the plain. Either of the plain of Jericho, where, in later times at least, there was a station of the priests, or of the plain about Jerusalem; those also assisted in the repairs of the wall.
