The five kings of 10:3 who hid in the cave stand at verses 10 to 12, and Makkedah, where the cave was, at verse 16. Jerusalem is in the tally though 15:63 says Judah could not drive out its Jebusites, so a king killed and a city held differ here.

John Gill names these two kings from Joshua 10:3 as Piram of Jarmuth and Japhia of Lachish. Lachish held out longer than its neighbours. Joshua 10:32 says it fell on the second day.
