on Jeremiah 40:4-6
Nebuzaradan frees Jeremiah and gives him a choice: come to Babylon, “I will take care of you,” or stay, “the whole land is before you.” He gives him “a ration and a gift”. Jeremiah goes to Gedaliah at Mizpah and stays “among the people who were left in the land.”

Jeremiah went to Gedaliah
Jeremiah chooses to stay with the poor of the land. Mizpah, a town of Benjamin as John Gill notes, is now the seat of government. Matthew Henry calls the settlement under Gedaliah life from the dead, though Jeremiah had foretold no such good days.
