on Jeremiah 37:1-5
Verse 2 gives the verdict first: he and his people “refused to obey the words that the LORD had spoken through Jeremiah the prophet.” Yet the king sends to Jeremiah, “Please pray to the LORD our God for us!” Jeremiah is still free, and Pharaoh’s advance has lifted the siege.

Nebuchadnezzar made Zedekiah king in place of Coniah son of Jehoiakim, and Calvin reads this as 36:30 fulfilled, since Coniah reigned only three months. The new king was no better. Gill says king, court and people of the land were all corrupt.
