Some translate it: “Nevertheless, Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah opposed this.” The opposition was useless Ezr 10:16.

on Ezra 10:13-15

The crowd's own objection slows what their vow had just promised: too many are involved, the rain will not let them stand in the open, and sorting the cases cannot be done in a day or two. Their proposed remedy becomes the chapter's working method, rulers standing in for the whole congregation while the accused come by appointed times to their own city's elders and judges. Two men are named against this proceeding, Jonathan and Jahaziah, and the commentators read the clause both ways, some taking them for officers appointed to the work and others for its opponents.

Dr. Lightfoot gives a contrary sense of this: only (or nevertheless) Jonathan and Jahaziah stood against this matter (which reading the original will very well bear), and these two Levites helped them in opposing it, either the thing itself or this method of proceeding. It was strange if a work of this kind was carried on and met with no opposition.
