silence the sound of your songs

on Ezekiel 26:13-14

The noise of thy songs to cease and the sound of thy harps silenced marks the end of Tyre's festival culture. Made like the top of a rock and built no more closes the sentence with permanence. Henry reads the silencing of music as the sharpest picture in the chapter.

The utter ruin of Tyre is here represented in very strong and lively figures, which are exceedingly affecting. See how high, how great, Tyre had been, how little likely ever to come to this. The remembrance of men's former grandeur and plenty is a great aggravation of their present disgrace and poverty.
