After three days, Jeroboam and all the people returned

on 2 Chronicles 10:12-14

On the third day Jeroboam and the people return as arranged. The king answers them “harshly,” repeating the young men's threat almost word for word as his own. Verse 13 names the choice a second time, “King Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders,” so the narrative brackets the scene.

Rehoboam repeats the counsel of verse 11 almost word for word, and it becomes royal policy. The elders had promised servants forever. Henry says the son lost ten tribes for the sin of Solomon and kept two for the sake of David's piety and the promise.
