on 2 Chronicles 10:3-5
The tribes state their grievance, “Your father put a heavy yoke on us,” naming forced labor and taxation that built the temple and the court. They offer service in return, “we will serve you”. Rehoboam asks for three days, and he spends them changing counselors.

The heavy yoke was the tribute and service Solomon laid on the tribes. The tribes asked for relief and offered service in return. Clarke names the grievance as oppressive taxes, and he stresses that the people asked for the removal of only a part of them.
