Either three ranges of windows, one above the other, on either side of the house; or perhaps the three ranges were one in either side wall, and the third in a wall down the middle of the hall, along the course of the midmost row of pillars. The windows were directly opposite one another, giving what we call a through light.

The state buildings come in order, beginning with the House of the Forest of Lebanon. Then come the colonnade, the Hall of Justice, Solomon’s own palace, and a palace for Pharaoh’s daughter. The “Hall of Justice, where he was to judge” gives in stone what Solomon asked for at 3:9.

Albert Barnes reads the three tiers as three ranges one above another, or one range in each side wall and a third down the middle. The windows faced one another, letting light straight through. John Gill puts none in the west wall, where the porch stood.
