The wasf, the groom's head-to-foot praise of the bride: doves' eyes behind her veil, hair as a flock of goats, teeth as shorn ewes, lips a thread of scarlet, neck like David's tower. 'Thou art all fair, my love; and there is no spot in thee', the line the church has sung of Christ and his bride ever since. She is 'a garden shut up… a spring shut up, a fountain sealed', desire honoring the lock. The chapter ends with her invitation: 'Awake, O north wind… Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his precious fruits.'
