David's great deliverance song, sung 'in the day that Jehovah delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul' (also 2 Samuel 22). Cords of death compassed him; he called, and the earth shook, smoke, fire, darkness under God's feet, the Most High uttering his voice. 'He drew me out of many waters.' Jehovah rewards according to righteousness, shows himself perfect with the perfect, and gives great deliverance to his king, 'to David and to his seed for evermore.'
