The tabernacle or sacred tent of their Divine King, with the camp of the Levites around it (see on Nu 3:38), formed the center, as does the chief's in the encampment of all nomad people. In marching, this order was adhered to, with some necessary variations. Judah led the way, followed, it is most probable, by Issachar and Zebulun [Nu 10:14-16].

This site's exposition

The standard of the camp of Dan

on Numbers 2:25-26

Dan takes the north with 62,700 men, second in size to Judah alone. The three tribes of this standard are Dan, Asher and Naphtali, the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, with Gad the one son of a handmaid placed elsewhere. Henry and Wesley both read the last place as the post of danger, given to the second strongest camp so that the tabernacle is covered where it is most exposed.

And his host,.... That is, the host of Dan: and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred. 62,700 men, which agrees with the account of this tribe in Num 1:39.
