7 notes on this verse(Version 5 and following) Thus says the Lord God: This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations, with the lands surrounding it; and it has despised my judgments, being more wicked than the nations, and my commandments more than the lands that surround it. For they have rejected my judgments and have not walked in my commandments. The Prophet also attests to Jerusalem being situated in the midst of the world, showing it to be the navel of the earth.

The Lord explains the sign: “This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations.” The charge is by comparison, for she “has rebelled against My ordinances more wickedly than the nations.” Verse 7 presses further: “nor have you even conformed to the ordinances of the nations.”

The charge ends with a comparison. Albert Barnes reads it this way: the nations kept the ordinances of their gods, and Israel would not keep even the ordinances of the Lord. Other interpreters drop the word nor, as at Ezekiel 11:12, and read Israel followed the ways of the nations.

Because ye multiplied - Some prefer: Because ye have raged tumultuously.” Neither have done according to the judgments - (or, ordinances) of the nations The reproach is that the Israelites have not even been as faithful to their one true God as the nations have been to their false gods (compare 2Ki 17:33).

The heathen "changed" not their gods, but the Jews changed Jehovah for idols (see Eze 5:6, "changed My judgments into wickedness," that is, idolatry, Jer 2:11). The Chaldean version and the Masora support the negative. Others omit it (as it is omitted in Eze 11:12), and translate, "but have done according to the judgments," &c.
