Ezekiel is told to “pack your bags for exile” with the hope, “Perhaps they will understand, though they are a rebellious house.” He digs “through the wall,” for “I have made you a sign to the house of Israel.” He performs it to the letter before any explanation.

Ezekiel obeys every part of the command. He brings out his bags by day, digs through the wall by hand in the evening, and carries his belongings on his shoulder at dusk. Matthew Henry sees a prophet willing to take any trouble to convince people who refuse to see.
