4 notes on this verseThe height was a hundred and twenty - Some think this should be twenty only; but if the same building is spoken of as in 1Ki 6:2, the height was only thirty cubits. Twenty is the reading of the Syriac, the Arabic, and the Septuagint in the Codex Alexandrinus. The MSS. give us no help. There is probably a mistake here, which, from the similarity of the letters, might easily occur. The words, as they now stand in the Hebrew text, are מאה ואשרים meah veesrim, one hundred and twenty.

Where 1 Kings 6:1 names only the month, verse 2 adds the exact day. Gold from Parvaim and “precious stones for beauty” at verse 6 have no parallel in Kings. The “main room” is the chamber Kings calls the house, and Chronicles gives the plan its own vocabulary.

The portico stood twenty cubits high, where the Hebrew text reads a hundred and twenty. Clarke finds twenty in the Syriac and the Arabic. He sets the Hebrew figure beside the thirty cubits of the whole building in 1 Kings 6:2 and judges it a copying mistake.

The height was an hundred and twenty cubits - This height, which so much exceeds that of the main building 1Ki 6:2, is probably to be corrected by the reading of the Arabic Version and the Alexandrian Septuagint, “twenty cubits.” But see 2Ch 3:9.
