Verse 4 describes the lampstand, made “according to the pattern the LORD had shown Moses”. Hebrews 8:5 quotes the same command from Exodus 25:40 to read the sanctuary as a shadow of heaven.

Adam Clarke reads the lampstand as the church, its oil as the gifts of the Spirit and its light as those gifts at work. John Calvin reads the pattern as God lighting His church by His Spirit. Calvin cites Isaiah 60:19, where the LORD is an everlasting light.
