That offered the sacrifices, burnt incense, set on the shewbread, lighted the lamps, &c. and Adaiah the son of Jeroham; see 1Ch 9:12 whose genealogy is traced here through Pelaliah, Amzi, Zechariah, Pashur, to Malchiah.

The priestly roll names Seraiah as "the chief official of the house of God." It counts by function: 822 who did the work at the temple, 242 leaders of families, and "128 mighty men of valor". The temple's daily service and the city's defense drew from the same priestly families.

Gill names the temple work as the sacrifices, the incense, the showbread and the lamps. The 822 associates of Jedaiah, Jachin and Seraiah are the largest of the three groups of priests in Jerusalem. The roll at 1 Chronicles 9:13 counts 1,760.
