on Jeremiah 39:8-10
The Chaldeans burn the palace and the houses and break down the walls, as Jeremiah said in 37:8. Nebuzaradan carries the people to Babylon, but he leaves “some of the poor people who had no property” and gives them “vineyards and fields.” Gill and Barnes explain this as Babylon’s policy.

The poorest are left to work the land, and Adam Clarke reads the verse as giving them the fields and vineyards of those carried away. The poor now hold the property of the rich. Their harvest under Gedaliah is recorded at 40:12.
