The speaker vows, “For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep still”. The doubled vow sounds like a watchman who will not leave his post. She receives a name she did not choose: “You will be called by a new name”.

Henry quotes the maxim that honour takes its worth from the one who gives it, so a name spoken by the LORD outranks every title. Barnes points ahead to verse 4, where the new names are given. Aquinas reads your righteousness as your Just One, Christ.
