5 notes on this verse(Verse 15 onwards) When he had finished measuring the interior dimensions of the house, he led me along the way of the gate that faced east, and he measured it all around. (He measured the likeness of the house all around in order.) He measured the east side with the measuring rod; it was 500 rods long by the measuring rod all around. (He also measured the north side, south side, and west side.) And he measured against the north wind, five hundred cubits, measuring with a cubit in circumference.

The tour's inner survey ends and the reed goes around the whole: five hundred reeds on the east, north, south and west, a square, with the purpose stated in the last clause and nowhere softened, a wall round about, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place. The book that watched the glory leave a defiled house (11:23) is building the conditions of its return two chapters before it comes (43:4), as the bench reads the order. The readings on the five hundred reeds' enormous extent (a real future precinct, so the literal line; ideal proportions, so others) are named with holders, and the stated purpose, separation, is the note's last word because it is the text's.

From the two angles of that side, east and west; and it was of the same dimension as the east side, just five hundred reeds, or one thousand seven hundred and fifty yards: with a measuring reed round about; he measured with the same reed, from point to point; and having measured this side, he went to another.
