Commentary on the Whole Bible (1710)

Here is no account either of Zebulun or Dan. Why they only should be omitted we can assign no reason; only it is the disgrace of the tribe of Dan that idolatry began in that colony of the Danites which fixed in Laish, and called Dan, and there one of the golden calves was set up by Jeroboam.

The children of Asher

on 1 Chronicles 7:30-40

Asher's record runs three generations after Beriah and closes with 26,000 men fit for battle. Verse 40 calls them choice and mighty men of valor, and chiefs among the leaders. Gill points out that Dan and Zebulun get no entry anywhere in this chapter.

The sons of Beriah

Heber and Malchiel are Asher's grandsons in Genesis 46:17 and head clans in Numbers 26:45. This Beriah of Asher is a different man from Ephraim's son in verse 23. Birzaith is named only here.
