Every name in the roll stood in the family lists of verses 2 to 4, and the roster fixes the order the lot gave them. Gill and Keil flag two names as variant spellings, Shubael of verse 20 for Shebuel of verse 4 and Azarel of verse 18 for Uzziel.

Hothir, the thirteenth son of Heman in verse 4, drew the twenty-first lot and led 12 of his sons and brothers. Three lots remained after his. All three also fell to sons of Heman.
