Every name in the roll stood in the family lists of verses 2 to 4, and the roster fixes the order the lot gave them. Gill and Keil flag two names as variant spellings, Shubael of verse 20 for Shebuel of verse 4 and Azarel of verse 18 for Uzziel.

Joshbekashah drew the seventeenth lot. He is the eleventh name among Heman's sons in verse 4. Heman, called the king's seer in verse 5, gave the roll more companies than Asaph and Jeduthun together.
