Every name in the roll stood in the family lists of verses 2 to 4, and the roster fixes the order the lot gave them. Gill and Keil flag two names as variant spellings, Shubael of verse 20 for Shebuel of verse 4 and Azarel of verse 18 for Uzziel.

Eliathah drew the twentieth lot. He is the eighth son of Heman in verse 4, and the lot set him twelve places lower than that list. Verse 8 says the lot fell on young and old alike, teacher as well as pupil.
