Chronicles sets this interlude after the ark's first attempt, where 2 Samuel 5:11 to 25 tells it before the ark comes up. Keil reads the order as thematic, since the Philistine wars answer David's anointing over all Israel. Barnes notes the parallel keeps close to Samuel's wording.

David reads Hiram's gifts as a sign from the LORD that his throne was secure. The kingdom was exalted for the sake of His people Israel, and Henry draws from this that the blessed are blessed to be a blessing. 2 Samuel 5:12 carries the same sentence.
