'Blow ye the trumpet in Zion', the locust army becomes the army of the day of Jehovah, a day of darkness and gloominess, of clouds and thick darkness. Before them the land is as the garden of Eden, behind them a desolate wilderness; they climb the wall and enter the windows like a thief, while sun and moon darken and the stars withdraw their shining. Then the great summons: 'rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto Jehovah your God; for he is gracious and merciful' (2:13). God answers: 'I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten' (2:25), and then, 'I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh' (2:28), the prophecy Peter reads over Pentecost.
