From Gershon came the Libnite clan
on Numbers 3:21-24
The Gershonites number 7,500 and camp “on the west, behind the tabernacle”. They are led by Eliasaph son of Lael, a name found only here in Scripture. Gill remarks that neither the text nor the Jewish writers say which of the two clans he belonged to.

Two men named Eliasaph hold command in this book: this Gershonite chief and Eliasaph son of Deuel, prince of Gad at 1:14. John Gill describes the chief's office as the direction of the two Gershonite clans. They answered to him.

Number the children of Levi--They were numbered as well as the other tribes; but the enumeration was made on a different principle--for while in the other tribes the number of males was calculated from twenty years and upward [Nu 1:3], in that of Levi they were counted "from a month old and upward." The reason for the distinction is obvious.
