on Jeremiah 19:14-15
Jeremiah returns from the valley to the court of the Lord's house, the most public space in the city, and repeats the sentence there before the people rather than leaving it spoken only over Tophet. The reason given is not new to the book, they hardened their necks that they might not hear my words, the same stiff-necked language Moses used of the wilderness generation and Jeremiah has already used at 7:26 and 17:23. The sign-act closes where the temple sermon of chapter 7 began, judgment announced in the very courts the people trusted to protect them.

Here, as often before, he both assures them of judgments coming upon them and assigns the cause of them, which was their sin. Both these are here put together in a little compass, with a reference to all that had gone before. The accomplishment of the prophecies is here the judgment threatened.
