Lowth understands it of obscurity, darkness: ‘If they speak not according to this word, In which there is no obscurity.’ But there is no evidence that the word is ever used in this sense. Others suppose that the Arabic sense of the word is to be retained here, deception, or magic. ‘If they speak not according to this oracle, in which there is no deception.’ But the word is not used in this sense in the Hebrew.
