As not being ashamed of the oath they took, and that there might be witnesses of it, and that it might be clear they did not equivocate in but expressed themselves in plain words: and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets; showing that the oath was not extorted from them unwillingly, but that they took it with the utmost cheerfulness, and with all the demonstrations of joy and gladness imaginable.

The oath is sworn aloud, with shouting and with trumpets and with cornets, the noise of the covenant matching the noise Chronicles gives every true act of worship. Judah rejoices at the oath because they had sworn with all their heart and sought him with their whole desire, and the chapter answers Azariah's own conditional promise from verse 2 in its own terms: he was found of them, and the Lord gave them rest round about. Gill and Henry both read the sincerity as total, though Gill allows that some in the crowd may have been dissemblers.
