Commentary on the Whole Bible (1710)

Aaron, and Moses, and Miriam, we have known much more of than their names, and cannot pass them over here without remembering that this was that Moses and Aaron whom God honoured in making them instruments of Israel's deliverance and settlement and figures of him that was to come, Moses as a prophet and Aaron as a priest.

This site's exposition

Gershon, Kohath, and Merari

on 1 Chronicles 6:1-3

Levi's three sons head the chapter. Amram's children stand together as three names, Aaron, Moses, and Miriam, the only place in the chapter where a woman is named among the sons. Aaron's four sons follow, and only two of them, Eleazar and Ithamar, carry the line forward.

This site's exposition

Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel

Kohath's four sons match Exodus 6:18 and Numbers 3:19. Izhar's son Korah is the ancestor of Heman the singer, whose descent is traced at verses 37 and 38. In the wilderness the Kohathites carried the most holy furnishings of the tabernacle (Numbers 4:4 to 15).
