Azariah begat Seraiah--He filled the supreme pontifical office at the destruction of Jerusalem, and, along with his deputy and others, he was executed by Nebuchadnezzar's orders at Riblah (2Ki 25:18, 21).

The priestly line runs from Aaron's grandson Phinehas through Zadok, who served David and Solomon, down to Jehozadak. Barnes flags a gap between Amariah and Hilkiah, three generations for a span the list of Judah's kings puts near two hundred years. The priesthood ends in Babylon as the kingdom did.

Jamieson, Fausset and Brown note Seraiah held the chief priesthood when Jerusalem fell and was put to death at Riblah (2 Kings 25:18 to 21). Ezra the scribe traces his own descent from this Seraiah in Ezra 7:1. Both men belong to one house.
