The house of Asuppim - literally, “the house of collections” (see the margin and compare Neh 12:25 margin). A treasure-house of some kind or other is probably intended.

The gatekeepers cast lots for their posts, “young and old alike”, as the singers of chapter 25 were assigned by lot. The four gates take the compass points: east to Shelemiah, north to Zechariah, south to Obed-edom, west to Shuppim and Hosah. Twenty-four men stand on watch at one time.

Obed-edom drew the South Gate, and his sons took the storehouses. Albert Barnes gives the Hebrew name of this building, Asuppim, as the house of collections, a treasure house of some kind. Verse 17 sets two pairs of guards there each day.
