Chapter summary

The verdict scene.

Read the rest, the context and the outline

The verdict scene. 'In those days… I will gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat.' The charges are specific: they scattered his people, parted his land, cast lots for his people, sold a boy for a harlot and a girl for wine; Tyre, Sidon, and Philistia trafficked Judah's children. The nations are summoned to arm ('beat your plowshares into swords') and answer to their own destruction: 'Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!' Jehovah roars from Zion, yet is a refuge to his people. A fountain flows from his house; Judah abides for ever, 'for Jehovah dwelleth in Zion.'
