Galleries - The upper story of the side-chambers was probably built in the form of an open gallery. Over against the door - The rows of the side-chambers extended to the front of the temple, so that they were “over against” the opening, but did not extend so far as the porch. Cieled - Overlaid. Pillars, galleries, narrow windows were overlaid with wood 1Ki 6:15-16. Were covered - With wood.

The temple and the building each come to a hundred cubits, whole numbers in place of the odd fractions a real building usually carries. Beveled windows, galleries in three levels, and walls overlaid with wood on all sides are recorded as an eyewitness would report them.

Albert Barnes links the wood paneling to Solomon's temple, where cedar lined the walls so that no stone showed (1 Kings 6:15, 18). The windows are narrow and covered. Inside, the rooms are lit sparingly, and the carved wood of verses 17 to 20 fills the view.
