on 2 Chronicles 2:1-2
Solomon “purposed to build a house for the Name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself,” naming both projects before either begins. The labor force is numbered, “70,000 porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors,” the count 1 Kings 5:15-16 carries with a small variance.

The porters, stonecutters and supervisors are the foreigners in the land of Israel, counted in verse 17 and given their tasks in verse 18. Gill totals them at 153,600. Barnes likens the supervisors to the overseers of forced labor in Egypt and Assyria, who carried whips or sticks.
