on 1 Chronicles 3:20-24

From Zerubbabel's children the list runs on to Anani in verse 24, so David's house still has sons and grandsons after the return from Babylon. Jewish tradition, recorded by Jarchi and repeated by Clarke, reads the name Anani as a title of the Messiah.

The sons of Neariah

Neariah's three sons carry David's line another generation after the return from exile. Elioenai is the son whose family is named next. Hizkiah bears the same Hebrew name as King Hezekiah, a royal name kept alive in a family with no throne.
