Twenty-one verses, the shortest book in the Old Testament, aimed entirely at Edom, the sons of Esau, dwelling in the clefts of the rock and saying in their heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? The answer: 'Though thou mount on high as the eagle, and though thy nest be set among the stars, I will bring thee down from thence.' Thieves leave gleanings; Esau will be ransacked bare, betrayed by his own confederates. The sin is family treachery on the day Jerusalem fell, standing aside, gloating, looting, cutting down the refugees at the crossway. 'As thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee' (v15). Deliverance stands on mount Zion, 'and the kingdom shall be Jehovah's.'
