Job continues into a protest about God's timing: 'Why are times not laid up by the Almighty? and why do not they that know him see his days?' (24:1). Then a documentary of unpunished cruelty: men remove landmarks, drive away the flock of the fatherless, take the widow's ox for a pledge, turn the needy out of the way. The poor go naked in the cold and hungry among the sheaves. The murderer rises with the light; the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me; 'they are of them that rebel against the light.' Yet God prolongs the mighty by his power. If it be not so, who will prove me a liar?
