(Vers. 15 seqq.) It is a creature that I saw beside the river Chobar. And when the Cherubim walked, the wheels also went beside them. And when the Cherubim lifted their wings to be lifted up from the ground, the wheels did not resist, but were also beside them. When they stood, they stood, and when they were lifted up, they were lifted up. For the spirit of life was in them. All things live to God and feel their Creator. For God is not the God of the dead but of the living (Matthew 22:32).

on Ezekiel 10:14-17
Each living creature has four faces, the cherub, the man, the lion and the eagle, the same set chapter one gave except that the ox of the first vision is here named the cherub. Commentators from Gill to Keil take the two names as one face under two words, the ox representing strength and readiness for service, a meaning the word cherub also carries, rather than a fifth living form. The wheels move exactly as the cherubim move, rising when they rise and standing when they stand, because the spirit of the living creature is in them and not merely alongside them. The whole complex machine therefore has nothing moving by a separate will of its own, wheel and creature obeying one spirit throughout.
