The dark twin of Psalm 105: Israel's history as confession. 'We have sinned with our fathers.' They believed not at the Red Sea, yet 'he saved them for his name's sake'; lusted in the wilderness; envied Moses; 'made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped a molten image… they forgat God their Saviour'; despised the pleasant land; joined themselves to Baal-peor; sacrificed their sons and daughters unto demons. Many times did he deliver them. 'Nevertheless he regarded their distress, when he heard their cry, and remembered for them his covenant.' Save us, O Jehovah our God, and gather us from among the nations. Book IV closes: 'Blessed be Jehovah… Amen. Praise ye Jehovah.'
